about

This track had some swearing in it live, like a lot of our tracks. Swearing was a form of breaking out in the punk days. If you could swear in day-to-day conversation, why couldn't you use contemporary (gutter) language in your song lyrics? It seems petty today with our 'Explicit Lyrics' sticker get out clause, but then it was difficult to express your emotion with such words, even if it was schoolboy level.

lyrics

Dearest Maybelene,
when I touch goats my knees go weak, I go all gooey.
Dearest Maybelene,
will you tell me the truth, am I normal?

Agony column, agony column.

Dearest Maybelene,
I feel inadequate in my dream to be a wardrobe.
Dearest Maybeblene,
will you tell the truth, am I normal?

(Chorus)

Change your deodorant, have a bath,
hide your teeth when you laugh,
he's after your body, I can tell,
he doesn't like you coz you smell!

(Chorus)

Dearest Maybelene,
I feel inadequate in my dream to be John Hedgecock.
Dearest Maybelene,
will you tell me the truth, am I normal?

(Chorus x 2)

All four members were pupils at a boarding school on the Isle of Wight. They would lie about their ages to secure gigs at local pubs and clubs, and then sneak out of school to play them. ... more
